Barcelona's goalkeeper Joan García delivered a sensational performance in the 18th round of La Liga against Espanyol, where the Blaugrana clinched a 2-0 victory, matching a feat last accomplished by Ter Stegen in 2023.
Details: According to Opta, García made six saves and kept a clean sheet against Espanyol, becoming the first Barcelona goalkeeper to register such numbers since Marc-André ter Stegen did so against Real Sociedad in November 2023.
This achievement is even more significant given that Espanyol is García's former club. His move to their fierce rivals provoked a strongly negative reaction from the fans, and throughout the match, he faced intense pressure from the stands.
Despite the hostile atmosphere, García played with supreme confidence and emerged as one of the main heroes of the derby.
As a result of this victory, Barcelona maintained their lead at the top of La Liga, now seven points ahead of their closest rivals Real Madrid. However, Madrid still have a game in hand and will face Betis today, January 4th, with kickoff set for 16:15 Central European Time.
