American military forces have detained Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro and transported him out of the country. This was announced by Donald Trump himself on the social network Truth Social, stating that Maduro was captured along with his wife, Cilia Flores, as part of a large-scale operation conducted with the assistance of U.S. law enforcement agencies.
According to the Spanish outlet Sport, Nicolás Maduro had previously made no secret of his affection for Barcelona, and in 2020 he reacted emotionally live on air to Lionel Messi's departure to PSG, publicly criticizing the then management of the Catalan club.
It is also reported that Maduro and Cilia Flores are being held on board the amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima and are en route to New York, where they are expected to face charges related to drug trafficking.
