Hugo Broos confirms the availability of Teboho Mokoena and the absence of Themba Zwane
Teboho Mokoena will be available for selection for South Africa's last-32 World Cup match against Canada while Themba Zwane remains suspended.
This was confirmed by South Africa coach Hugo Broos who disclosed their appeal against Themba Zwane's red card against Mexico was upheld by Fifa.
“Teboho is surely there against Canada, but Themba no- they didn’t accept our appeal, which is strange,” said Broos.
“What he did was certainly not deserving of a three-game sanction. Certainly not.”
Mokoena was suspended against South Korea having picked up yellow cards in both matches against Mexico and Czechia while Zwane's red card was issued with a three match ban by Fifa.
Safa tried to appeal the dismissal but it was not accepted which has irked coach Hugo Broos.
South Africa face Canada on Sunday in the round of 32 and they are expected to restore Mokoena in the starting line up.
It's not clear who between Thalente Mbatha or Sphephelo Sithole will be sacrificed.
The match starts at 9pm South African time.
