The Van Persie name is back on the Champions League stage.

Details: Feyenoord forward Shaqueel van Persie made his Champions League debut on Wednesday, coming off the bench in the league-phase clash against Barcelona at Spotify Camp Nou. The 19-year-old is the son of legendary Netherlands striker Robin van Persie, who also began his Champions League journey with Feyenoord.

For Shaqueel, the appearance against Barcelona represents another important milestone after breaking into Feyenoord's senior team. He made his first-team debut in November 2025 in the Europa League against Celtic and later scored his first senior goals for the Rotterdam club.

There is also a remarkable family parallel: Robin van Persie was 19 when he made his own Champions League debut for Feyenoord. The former Arsenal and Manchester United striker first appeared in the competition on October 1, 2002, in a goalless draw against Dynamo Kyiv.

It is worth noting that before the Champions League meeting with Barcelona, Shaqueel had appeared in all five of Feyenoord's Eredivisie matches this season, each time coming off the bench. Transfermarkt currently estimates the young forward's market value at €1.5 million.
