Next season, sensational Girona will make history by competing in three tournaments for the first time, as the club unexpectedly qualified for the UEFA Champions League. Unsurprisingly, Girona is actively working on strengthening its squad ahead of this momentous occasion.

Today, Girona officially announced the transfer of forward Abel Ruiz from Braga. The 24-year-old Spaniard signed a five-year contract, with the transfer fee amounting to €8.5 million plus bonuses.

Additionally, winger Gabri Martinez moved to Braga as part of the exchange deal. Martinez spent the previous season on loan at Mirandés.

Last season, Abel Ruiz scored 8 goals in 48 matches across all competitions.

Throughout his career, Abel Ruiz has earned 2 caps for the Spanish national team and has scored 14 goals in 28 appearances for Spain U-21.

Previously, Girona's director stated that the club would be forced to sell their top scorer, Artem Dovbyk, if his release clause of €40 million is triggered.
