Gavin Hunt's Stellenbosch FC thumps Sekhukhune United 3-1 in a Betway Premiership match at Athlone Stadium as they push for a top eight spot
Gavin Hunt’s Stellenbosch FC thumped a coach-less Sekhukhune United 3-1 this evening in a Betway Premiership.
The game at Athlone Stadium was largely dominated by the home side in Stellies who netted through Enyinnaya Godswill, Genino Palace and Chumani Butsaka.
Now the Cape Winelands side are ninth on the standings with 31 points and are on a mission for a top eight finish which seems possible.
But for their opponents on the night, the downward spiral continues.
Sekhukhune fired Eric Tinkler earlier this week with the hope that they can turn the corner under stand-in coaches in Paulus Masehe and Andre Arendse.
But in Stellenbosch FC under the wintry evening, Masehe and Arendse received a baptism of fire as the Stellies dispatched them with ease.
The home side went to the half time break leading by two goals already with Sekhukhune out of sorts not knowing what hit them.
Bright Ndlovu who has been salvaging points for Babina Noko lately netted late in the second half as they look to stage a come back.
But the final nail was Butsaka’s goal as it dented Sekhukhune’s hope of a comeback.
If they are not careful, Sekhukhune may even lose out on a top eight finish.
But for Hunt the dreams lives on.
