For the first time in history! Banyana Banyana fall to Namibia in COSAFA Women's Cup final
On March 1 in Polokwane, the decisive match of the latest COSAFA Women's Cup unfolded. The final pitted Namibia against the hosts, South Africa's Banyana Banyana.
In the first half, Nthabiseng Majiya, the 21-year-old Mamelodi Sundowns forward, found the back of the net with a precise strike. However, after the break, Namibia hit back to level the score. Regular time ended 1-1, and in the extra half hour, it was the Namibian side who rose to the occasion.
It's worth noting that Namibia's national team clinched the COSAFA Cup for the first time in history. Remarkably, this was only the 13th edition of the tournament. The roll of honor now includes Zambia (twice), Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Tanzania. Banyana Banyana of South Africa remain the most decorated side, having lifted the trophy an impressive seven times.
