First goal of the season. Diomande finally scores for Real and ends his goal drought!
Yan Diomande has finally opened his Real Madrid scoring account this season! The Ivorian winger found the net in the eighth-round La Liga clash with Villarreal, putting Madrid ahead and reminding everyone why the club spent a huge sum to sign him.
For the 19-year-old, this was his first goal of the season. Before the meeting with Villarreal, Diomande had made eight appearances for Real Madrid, but had only one assist to his name. His record for the Ivory Coast was hardly impressive either: in three matches for the national team, the winger had yet to register a goal or assist.
The expensive new signing has finally ended his goalless run at club level. According to Spanish media reports, Diomande's transfer cost Real €125 million in guaranteed fees, while the total deal could reach €140 million with bonuses included.
The goal against Villarreal could prove to be a turning point for Diomande. The Ivorian's main task now is to build on this success and prove that Real were right to make such a major investment in him.
