The official regulations for the final draw of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set for December 5, 2025, at Washington's prestigious John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, have been announced. Coaches and representatives from all qualified teams, as well as those still battling in the playoffs, will be in attendance.

Details: FIFA has published the regulations for the 2026 World Cup draw, along with the distribution of teams into pots. Tournament hosts Canada, Mexico, and the USA have automatically secured places in Pot 1. The other national teams are seeded according to the FIFA ranking as of November 19, 2025.

Pot 4 will include the two teams that make it through the intercontinental playoffs, as well as the four winners of the European playoff finals.

Pot 1:
Canada, Mexico, USA, Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany.

Pot 2:
Croatia, Morocco, Colombia, Uruguay, Switzerland, Japan, Senegal, Iran, South Korea, Ecuador, Austria, Australia.

Pot 3:
Norway, Panama, Egypt, Algeria, Scotland, Paraguay, Tunisia, Ivory Coast, Uzbekistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Africa.

Pot 4:
Jordan, Cape Verde, Ghana, Curaçao, Haiti, New Zealand, European playoff winners A–D, plus FIFA playoff tournament teams 1 and 2.

To maintain sporting balance, FIFA has split the playoff bracket into two independent paths. According to the rules, the four highest-ranked teams face placement restrictions:

  • Spain and Argentina will be placed on opposite sides of the tournament bracket,
  • the same applies to France and England.

As per the regulations, no group can feature more than one team from any single confederation (except UEFA). For UEFA, special conditions apply: each group must have at least one but no more than two European teams.

Immediately after the draw, FIFA will unveil the final schedule, assigning each match to a specific stadium and kickoff time. The organization promises an optimized fixture list designed to balance player recovery and fan convenience across different time zones.
