Fabio Cannavaro Linked With Two Liga MX Clubs Ahead of 2025 Apertura

Italian World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro is reportedly in talks with two top Liga MX clubs, as he considers taking on a new coaching challenge ahead of the 2025 Apertura tournament. Renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the former Ballon d’Or recipient has recently held conversations with two major Mexican teams and is intrigued by the idea of managing in Mexico.
Romano did not name the clubs, but both Monterrey and Chivas are currently without permanent head coaches following the departures of Martín Demichelis and Gerardo Espinoza. That opens the door for a high-profile appointment, and Cannavaro’s name brings prestige and global recognition.
Cannavaro, 51, began his managerial career in 2014 and has overseen over 200 matches, most notably with Guangzhou Evergrande in China. He also had a brief stint with the Chinese national team, and later managed Benevento, Udinese, and Dinamo Zagreb. However, his recent record has been mixed, with only 12 wins from his last 37 games.
Despite this, Cannavaro remains a high-profile figure whose international experience could prove valuable in Liga MX. His potential arrival would mark another marquee coaching addition to a league that continues to attract global talent.
