Fabbiani Extends Newell’s Deal Through 2026 After Impressive Start

Cristian Fabbiani has renewed his contract as Newell’s Old Boys head coach through December 2026, the club officially announced on Monday. As reported by Olé, the extension comes on the heels of Newell’s advancing to the Round of 16 in the Copa Argentina with a win over Defensa y Justicia.
The former striker took charge in February amid turmoil, inheriting a team stuck at the bottom of the table under Mariano Soso. From day one, Fabbiani focused on rebuilding morale with clear instructions and emotional commitment. “I have a special bond with Newell’s — it’s hard to explain. I want to give back some of the love I’ve received,” he said during his first press conference. His arrival also led to the exit of sporting director Rubén Capria and Iván Borghello.
Under Fabbiani’s leadership, the team has played 12 matches, registering five wins, five draws, and just two defeats. Beyond the numbers, his presence has brought calm and a renewed sense of direction. With the contract now extended, Newell’s will aim to secure a playoff berth in the Clausura, remain competitive in the Copa Argentina, and push for international qualification in the second half of 2025.
