Eric Tinkler on Sekhukhune United's goalless draw against Orlando Pirates: Players rise when we face big teams such as Pirates which is not good
Eric Tinkler thinks his Sekhukhune United players do not approach all PSL games with the same mentality.
Tinkler opinion is that the players seem to choose games.
The former Cape Town City coach believes his players performance against Orlando Pirates yesterday was much better than the effort they gave in midweek against Stellenbosch FC did not
He is of the view that his players give a half-hearted effort when playing so-called small team than when facing bigger sides such as Orlando Pirates.
"The frustration I have is that I know the players will pitch up for these games, but the smaller teams are the teams we struggle against. Difference between ourselves and Pirates is Pirates play a game every week with teams wanting to beat them, and they have the mentality that every game is a cup final,” he said after the game at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
“Why is that the case? The expectation is for them to win leagues. Our players aren't at that stage."
"If you collect maximum points, you get to a really good position. It's been about reiterating that message to the players and they must understand that today for example, some of their contributions were not enough.”
Babina Noko will face defending Betway Premiership champions in Mamelodi Sundowns in midweek.
