Elye Wahi faces match-fixing allegations
The Ivory Coast international is under investigation.
Elye Wahi is suspected of deliberately picking up a yellow card on 17 May during the league match between Nice and Metz. According to reports by The Athletic, bets totalling several thousand euros were placed worldwide in connection with this incident.
The Ivorian striker was arrested on 29 May following the relegation play-off match in France’s Ligue 1 between Nice and Saint-Etienne. However, Elye Wahi has not been charged. An investigation has been launched, however, since the Ligue de Football Professionnel received several reports of suspicious betting activity.
Elye Wahi is currently playing in the World Cup with the Ivory Coast. The tournament is taking place in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
