Elvis Chipezeze has finally received an invitation to represent his country!

After eight years of being ignored and much to his annoyance, Magesi FC goalkeeper and captain Elvis Chipezeze was once again invited to represent the Zimbabwe national team, with the goalkeeper being an integral part of the team and making 29 appearances in all competitions for Dikwena tša Meetse.
After an impressive domestic campaign, 35-year-old goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze has fought his way back into Zimbabwe’s national team setup following a long absence. The shot-stopper, who kept 10 clean sheets in 25 Betway Premiership matches this season, was initially the league’s top keeper before being overtaken by Mamelodi Sundowns’ Ronwen Williams and Orlando Pirates’ Sipho Chaine, who both have 11 shutouts.
Chipezeze’s resurgence has not gone unnoticed, as Zimbabwe coach Michael Nees has included him in the squad for upcoming friendlies against Niger (June 6) and Burkina Faso (June 10). These matches serve as crucial preparation for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco this December.
The former Baroka FC keeper will compete with Washington Arubi (Marumo Gallants), Zimbabwe’s current No. 1, and Marley Tavaziva (Brentford B) for a starting spot. This call-up marks a redemption opportunity for Chipezeze, whose last major tournament—the 2017 AFCON—ended in disappointment after a series of high-profile errors.
In other squad news, Marumo Gallants midfielder Daniel Msendami makes his return after missing Zimbabwe’s last two fixtures. With AFCON looming, every performance could be decisive in shaping Nees’ final selections.
