Hany Abo Rida is close to becoming the president of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) again, as no one else is running against him in the upcoming elections. The deadline for nominations was on Saturday at 4 PM in Cairo, and only Abo Rida's team signed up, meaning he will likely win without any competition, after the official steps are completed.
Abo Rida, who was the EFA president from 2016 to 2019, will now lead for the next four years. His team includes important people like Khaled El Darandaly as vice president and Inas Mazhar as a member.
This situation has brought up questions about possible disagreements with Egypt's head coach, Hossam Hassan. The coach has previously spoken against long time leaders in Egyptian football, indirectly pointing at Abo Rida. In October, Hassan said he wanted "new faces" to lead the sport, referring to the problems Egypt faced during the 2019 AFCON under Abo Rida's leadership.
While Hassan has achieved strong results with the national team, including qualification for AFCON 2025, insiders suggest his remarks have not gone unnoticed by Abo Rida, hinting at possible tensions ahead.
