Efraín Juárez Targets Four Colombian Signings from Atlético Nacional for Pumas Overhaul

Pumas UNAM could undergo a major squad overhaul this summer under the leadership of Efraín Juárez. As reported by Marca and La Silla Rota, the Mexican coach is eyeing four Colombian players he previously coached at Atlético Nacional, aiming to replicate the success they shared in 2024 when they won both the Colombian league and cup titles.
The players on Juárez’s radar are William Tesillo, Edwin Cardona, Andrés Felipe Román, and Alfredo Morelos. Tesillo and Cardona are familiar faces in Mexican football, having played for León and clubs like Monterrey, Pachuca, and Tijuana, respectively — an experience that would ease their integration into Liga MX.
Juárez’s departure from Atlético Nacional was marked by tension after he rejected attempts by the board to impose player signings. Now at Pumas, he sees these trusted players as key to elevating the team’s competitiveness, especially with the Apertura 2025 and the Leagues Cup on the horizon.
While official figures have not been disclosed, Transfermarkt estimates the combined market value of the four players at €5.1 million — around 120 million pesos. It’s a significant investment, especially considering all four are aged 28 or older, with Morelos being the youngest of the group.
With several exits already confirmed and others under review, Pumas appear ready for a bold reshaping of their squad — one that could be led by familiar faces from Juárez’s Colombian chapter.
