Durban City wins the Nedbank Cup trophy beating TS Galaxy 2-1 in Polokwane to make history by becoming the first only KZN side to win this competition
Durban City clinched this season’s Nedbank Cup by beating TS Galaxy 2-1 in this season’s final at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium Stadium this evening.
City, under interim coach Pitso Dladla, had to come back from a goal down to win the Ke Yona competition and book themselves a spot in next season Caf Confederation Cup competition.
City striker Jean Lwamba scored an own goal which gave Galaxy the lead but also redeemed himself with a goal with also Mfanafuthi Mkhize scoring the other goal
This victory is historic for Durban City as they become the maiden side from Kwa-Zulu Natal to win this trophy.
Their coach, Dladla, is interestingly, like his counterpart, Bernard Parker, on interim basis going into this game.
So this win is likely to put Dladla in a good position to be appointed on a permanent basis by Durban City management following the victory.
Galaxy went into the final at the 2010 World Cup venue with an upper hand because they won this trophy in 2019 when they beat Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 in Durban.
But on the evening, it was City who showed more hunger for the trophy today.
