Copa America 2024. Sensational defeat for the USA, Uruguay defeats Bolivia

On the night of June 28, the matches of the second round of the group stage of Copa America 2024 in Group C took place.

The first match of the day delivered a massive surprise. The tournament hosts, the USA, suffered a defeat at the hands of the modest Panama team.

Already in the 18th minute, the USA was reduced to ten men. Juventus winger Timothy Weah received a red card for unsportsmanlike conduct. However, just four minutes later, Folarin Balogun opened the scoring with a magnificent long-range shot off the post.

But by the 26th minute, Panama had equalized. Slovan Bratislava defender César Blackman scored precisely from the edge of the penalty area into the corner. The decisive goal for Panama came in the 83rd minute when José Fajardo struck successfully under the crossbar following a cross from the right flank.

In the second match, Uruguay predictably thrashed Bolivia with a 5-0 scoreline, virtually ensuring their spot in the playoffs.

Modest Bolivia held out for exactly eight minutes before conceding to Facundo Pellistri, and by the 21st minute, Liverpool forward Darwin Núñez made it 2-0.

Uruguay did not rush events but starting from the 77th minute, they scored three more goals. Marcelo Bielsa's team saw goals from Maximiliano Araujo, Federico Valverde, and Ricardo Bentancur.
