Chidozie Awaziem Ready to Play Any Role for Super Eagles at 2025 AFCON
Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem has made it clear that he is fully committed to Nigeria’s success at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, regardless of the position he is asked to play.
The versatile defender, who recently found the back of the net in Nigeria’s 2–1 friendly defeat to Egypt, shared his thoughts during an interview with Elegbete TV. Awaziem emphasized his adaptability and willingness to serve the team wherever the coaching staff believes he fits best.
Speaking on his flexibility across the defensive line and beyond, he said:
“I mean for me, I’ve played a different position in the back. It depends on the structure of the coach. It depends on where the coach wants me to perform.
“I just go there and just try to do the job as possible as I can. So, I just try to do my best, you know, do everything possible to help the team, help myself as well. So, if the coach wants me to be a goalkeeper, I’m ready. If he wants me to be a striker, I’m ready.
Despite his openness to playing anywhere, Awaziem was also clear about where he feels most comfortable on the pitch. Drawing from his experience and confidence, he highlighted his natural role in defense.
“But my preferred position right now today as I’m speaking to you, I’m a center back, you know. So, I would prefer to remain in my position, center back,” he stated, reinforcing his confidence and experience in the role.
