Casric Stars coach on their Nedbank Cup good run: Our main focus remains gaining promotion to the PSL as winning the league is more prestigious
Casric Stars are focused on gaining promotion to the Betway Premiership more than winning the Nedbank Cup.
The team from Mpumalanga wants to gain promotion from the MFC to the elite division than winning the Ke Yona competition despite knocking giants in Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu out of it.
That they slayed giants makes them favourites to win South Africa’s version of the FA Cup but coach Bucs Mthombeni does not see it that way.
At the moment, Stars are fourth on the National First Division standings with 34 points and table-toppers Kruger United have three points more than them.
Last season, Stars could not go past the PSL Promotional Plays-offs as they were pipped by Orbit College for the place in the elite division.
“The cup final is on Wednesday, definitely against AmaTuks. We will tell the boys that a league is bigger than the trophy,” he said yesterday after his team's 2-1 victory over AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Stars are in the final four of this season's competition and they will find out in tomorrow's semifinal draw who they play in he next stage of the Nedbank Cup.
