The 2025/26 Nedbank Cup has delivered one of the most extraordinary stories in recent years. After the first two quarter-finals, more than one club from outside the country’s top flight has advanced to the semi-finals. This marks just the third time in the competition’s history—and the first since the 2010/11 season—that this has happened.
The quarter-finals produced a major upset as Casric Stars, competing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship (South Africa’s second division), stunned the football world. After eliminating Orlando Pirates, the team went on to defeat AmaZulu 2-1 in extra time to secure their spot in the semi-finals.
In another thrilling tie, Milford, who also play in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, edged out Sekhukhune in a dramatic penalty shootout. The remaining two quarter-final matches are set to be played tomorrow, March 8.
