Canada Eyes Quarterfinal Spot as They Face Curaçao in Houston

Canada will take on Curaçao this Saturday at Houston’s Shell Energy Stadium in a key Group B matchup at the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup. It will be the first meeting between the two sides in the Gold Cup, although they’ve faced each other three times in recent years—all wins for Canada.
Curaçao opened the tournament with a 0-0 draw against El Salvador and is looking for its first victory in this edition as it seeks to match or surpass its 2019 quarterfinal run. Canada, meanwhile, comes in with momentum after a 6-0 demolition of Honduras in their opener — their largest win ever against the Central American side.
Tajon Buchanan scored twice, earning his first Gold Cup brace, while Niko Sigur, Tani Oluwaseyi, Promise David, and Nathan Saliba also found the net. Notably, David became the oldest Canadian player to score on his Gold Cup debut coming off the bench at 23 years, 11 months, and 14 days.
Historically, Canada holds a perfect record against Curaçao with three wins, eight goals scored, and just one conceded. They won 4-0 in Vancouver in 2022 and 2-0 in Willemstad in 2023, both in Nations League play.
A win on Saturday would all but secure Canada’s spot in the quarterfinals. For Curaçao, it’s a crucial test of whether they can remain in contention.
