The Petruciens secured a hard-fought victory on Saturday 17 October at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the 2026–2027 CAF Champions League.

The home side got off to a flying start thanks to Aby Kassi Théodore, who found the net as early as the 4th minute. But FC Nouadhibou struck back before half-time, with Jowool equalising in the 40th minute to level the score at 1–1.

Just as the match seemed to be heading for a draw, Karamoko Mouhamadou secured the win for San Pedro by scoring the winning goal in the 88th minute. This late goal gives the Ivorians the edge ahead of the second leg in Mauritania.

However, the suspense remains. With this 2–1 home win, San Pedro hold only a narrow lead. FC Nouadhibou still have a chance of qualifying ahead of the return leg. The Ivorians will therefore need to build on this result in the return leg if they are to secure a place in the Champions League group stage.

San Pedro will, however, need to show character against FC Nouadhibou, who will be playing at home.
