The race to succeed Fiston Mayele is officially underway. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the ten players nominated for the 2026 Interclub Player of the Year award, a prize that recognises the best performances in CAF interclub competitions.

Among the names shortlisted are Egypt’s Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet and South Africans Teboho Mokoena and Khuliso Mudau. Morocco’s Mohamed Rabie Hrimat is also among the contenders for this award.

The ten candidates will be vying to impress the judging panel and secure this prestigious honour, with the winner to be announced this coming December at the 2026 CAF Awards ceremony.

The defending champion, Fiston Mayele of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is not among this year’s nominees. He will therefore hand over his crown to one of the ten contenders selected by CAF.
