CAF Champions League: Finidi George Acknowledges Pyramids FC Superiority After Rivers United Defeat

Rivers United head coach Finidi George has conceded that his team were second best following their heavy 4–1 loss to Pyramids FC in Sunday’s CAF Champions League encounter played in Uyo.

The defeat marked a disappointing end to Rivers United’s continental journey, as the defending champions from Egypt recovered from an early setback to produce a commanding performance on Nigerian soil.

Rivers United showed promise in the opening stages of the match, taking the lead and controlling possession while denying Pyramids FC space to express themselves. However, the visitors returned after the break with renewed intensity, overwhelming the hosts with their attacking quality and experience.

Reflecting on the outcome, Finidi praised the opposition while admitting his players found it difficult to cope in the second half.

“We played well in the first half, controlled the game and got our goal,” he said.

“In the second half, it became difficult to contain them. We lost to a very good side, especially after the break.”
