Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana has been named in the country’s provisional squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations only seven days after the coach who initially selected him was removed from his position.

The 29-year-old shot stopper was originally left out of the list released by interim head coach David Pagou, who took charge of the national team last week. His omission came as a major surprise and disappointment to the Manchester United keeper.

However, with only two days remaining before the official squad submission deadline, The Sun reports that Onana has now been included in a squad list submitted not by Pagou but by former head coach Marc Brys.

The confusion follows a dramatic week in Cameroonian football. The country’s football federation Fecafoot dismissed Brys shortly after Samuel Eto’o resumed his role as president of the federation. Brys’ removal was linked to allegations of professional failure and claims that players had been encouraged to challenge the federation’s authority.

Despite the ongoing administrative crisis, it appears that Brys’ version of the provisional squad which includes Onana has been forwarded as the official list for AFCON 2025.
