AFCON 2025: Bryan Mbeumo Declines Cameroon Captaincy to Focus on Performances
Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo has reportedly turned down the opportunity to captain Cameroon at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), choosing instead to concentrate fully on his performances on the pitch.
According to reports from L’Equipe 237, the attacker made it clear that he prefers to avoid the added responsibility of wearing the captain’s armband, believing it could distract him from delivering his best football for the team.
Cameroon has been forced into a captaincy decision following major changes within the squad. Former skipper Vincent Aboubakar has been left out of the AFCON squad, alongside goalkeeper André Onana, creating a leadership vacuum ahead of the tournament.
