Cameroon opened their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a 1-0 victory over Gabon on Wednesday in Agadir, Morocco. The match was decided in the 6th minute when forward Karl Etta Eyong scored following a clinical strike and a lengthy VAR review.
Despite internal turmoil and missing star players, the Indomitable Lions showed defensive resilience under coach David Pagou. Gabon attempted a comeback by introducing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mario Lemina in the 33rd minute, but goalkeeper Devis Epassy proved insurmountable. Epassy’s heroic 72nd-minute save ultimately preserved the clean sheet.
This victory places Cameroon atop Group F alongside Ivory Coast. Gabon must now defeat Mozambique on Sunday to keep their knockout hopes alive.
