Almirón’s Exit Imminent as Colo Colo Board Eyes Pékerman Option

Jorge Almirón’s time at Colo Colo appears to be nearing its end following a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Racing that knocked the Chilean giants out of the Copa Libertadores. According to Cooperativa Deportes, the club’s board, Blanco y Negro, has scheduled an emergency meeting for Tuesday, May 20 to decide the manager’s fate.
Until then, Almirón remains under contract and is expected to lead the team in Monday’s match against Ñublense at the Estadio Monumental, part of Matchday 11 of the Chilean top flight. While the writing is on the wall, a lack of agreement over severance terms—estimated at around $3.3 million—has delayed an official announcement.
This leadership crisis comes in a pivotal year for Colo Colo, marking its centennial while suffering both international failure and domestic stagnation. The board is now actively evaluating potential replacements.
As reported by Dale Albo, a surprising candidate has emerged: José Néstor Pékerman. The seasoned Argentine coach, known for his work with Colombia and Venezuela, has reportedly been offered to the club’s executives. The outcome of Tuesday’s meeting could shape the next chapter in Colo Colo’s turbulent season.
