Mozambique President Daniel Francisco Chapo has pledged special financial rewards to the Mambas if they can pull off a shock victory over Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Mambas booked their place in the knockout stages after finishing as one of the four best third-placed teams at the tournament. They ended the group phase third in Group F, a result that secured Mozambique a spot in the Round of 16 and marked a significant achievement for the nation.
In a message released on January 1, 2026, President Chapo congratulated the players and coaching staff for making history by reaching the knockout rounds of the AFCON. He praised their determination and commitment, describing the qualification as a proud moment for Mozambican football.
To further motivate the team ahead of their high-profile encounter with Nigeria, the president announced a performance-based bonus. According to the statement, each player and member of the coaching staff will receive 500,000 meticais (approximately ₦11.3 million) if the Mambas defeat the Super Eagles.
