Abdeslam Ouaddou is not interested in Orlando Pirates statistics if they do not win the PSL title
Abdeslam Ouaddou wants Orlando Pirates statistics to be backed by winning the Betway Premiership title.
The Sea Robbers remain one team with less or none South African players in their starting line up.
Infact, there is no non South African player in the Pirates starting line-up despite having foreign players in their squad.
This is something hugely different from their Betway Premiership rivals who have three or more non South African players in their starting line up.
Ouaddou disclosed that this was a policy at the club.
"If I have to be honest, we have to check, but I think I have the third-youngest team in the PSL. The majority of the players are South African because it’s the policy of the club. They try to promote South African talent. I’m happy with that. I’m happy with the policy,” Ouaddou told the journalists.
But the coach added this is not as important if they do not win the Betway Premiership title.
"We have to continue to fight to improve the players, to try to be more creative, to be more consistent as well. Because breaking the records is fine, you know, it’s for show. If you break the record and you didn’t win the title, it’s useless.”
This evening they face the struggling Magesi at New Peter Mokaba Stadium, where they are hoping to collect maximum to ensure they put pressure on table toppers Mamelodi Sundowns.
Pirates have 62 points - three less than Sundowns' 65 - and a game less than Sundowns who are also playing this evening.
For Ouaddou's troops to keep up pace with Sundowns, they cannot afford to slip at Magesi this evening, in a game right-back Kamogelo Sebelebele describes as a ‘cup final’.
The match starts at 8pm.
