The German legend Thomas Müller has decided to end his international career after the 2024 European Championship, reports Bild.
The quarterfinal match against Spain was the footballer's last in the Bundesteam jersey. In March 2010, the then 20-year-old player made his debut for the German national team.
Within a few months, with only two official matches for the national team under his belt, he was not only included in the squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, but also started in the opening game against Australia. The Germans triumphed with a 4-0 victory, in which Müller scored his debut goal.
He played until March 2019, when Germany's coach Joachim Löw decided that Thomas Müller, Jerome Boateng, and Mats Hummels would no longer be called up to the national team, stating that younger and more promising players would form the core of the team. However, in May 2021, Löw announced that Müller was included in the squad for the Euro 2020 matches.
At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Müller started in all three group stage matches but did not score any goals.
Throughout his career with the German national team, Müller played 131 matches and scored 45 goals. With the Bundesteam, Thomas became a bronze medalist at the 2010 World Cup, Euro 2012, and Euro 2016. He also won the gold medal at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where he was the second-highest scorer with five goals.
