Madagascar vs Tanzania prediction: who can turn things around?
On September 29, Madagascar will face Tanzania in the second round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The match will be played at a neutral venue — Stade d’Honneur in Meknes, Morocco — with kick-off scheduled for 16:00 Kyiv time.

The game promises to be intriguing, if only because both teams made poor starts to the qualifying campaign. Madagascar came within touching distance of a shock result in Nigeria in the opening round. The Barea took the lead in the 16th minute — Ehsan Kari headed the ball into the net after a corner routine. However, they were unable to hold on to their advantage: George Ilenikhena equalized just before halftime, while Moses Usor secured a 2-1 victory for Nigeria in the 65th minute.
Tanzania also came away empty-handed, despite playing at home. The Taifa Stars enjoyed plenty of possession and created a number of chances, but lost 0-2 to Guinea-Bissau. Franculino Djú opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, while Mama Baldé extended the visitors’ lead after the break.
There is, however, one important nuance: Tanzania have already secured their place at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations as one of the tournament’s host nations. Therefore, in Group L, the main battle for the only additional qualification spot is between Nigeria, Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
The upcoming encounter is particularly important for Madagascar. After a commendable performance against Nigeria, Corentin Martins’ team must turn good football into a result. Especially since, ahead of the start of the qualifiers, the coach called up several new players, including goalkeeper Zacharie Boucher and forward Romain Faivre.
Tanzania, meanwhile, will surely be eager to make amends after their home defeat. Despite already having a guaranteed ticket to the Africa Cup of Nations, a second consecutive loss is certainly not part of Miguel Ángel Gamondi’s plans.
Overall, this is one of those games where home advantage or away status means virtually nothing: the match will be played at a neutral venue, and both national teams come into it on the back of defeats. Madagascar need points in the race for qualification, while Tanzania need a strong response to their disappointing start. So there should be no shortage of action in Meknes.
