Angers: Gilli is building a more controlled side
Angers entered the new season with a change on the bench. Stéphane Gilli replaced Alexandre Dujeux during the summer and has generally kept the team in a 4-2-3-1 structure. Troyes: the promoted side have already shown two very different faces
Stéphane Dumont guided Troyes back to Ligue 1 as Ligue 2 champions, but the first three rounds have underlined how demanding the step up will be. ESTAC opened with a disciplined 0-0 draw against Paris FC and then claimed an excellent 2-1 away victory over Lorient. Their momentum disappeared in the following game, however, when Strasbourg won 6-2 at Stade de l'Aube.
Troyes have therefore scored four and conceded seven in three league matches. Antoine Mille has already made an impact from midfield, while Renaud Ripart, Hugo Picard, Merwan Ifnaoui and new attacking options Jérémy Le Douaron and Timothé Nkada give Dumont several ways to threaten in transition. Le Douaron opened his account after coming off the bench against Strasbourg.
The bigger issue is at the other end. Current squad reports list Ismaël Boura and Yvann Titi among the injured defenders, while Paolo Gozzi is also dealing with an injury problem. That lack of defensive depth is especially concerning after Strasbourg generated 27 attempts and scored six times against ESTAC.

Still, backing the hosts outright looks risky considering they have already lost both of their home league matches this season.
Troyes are much harder to trust defensively. Conceding six against Strasbourg exposed serious structural problems, and the current injuries in defence reduce Dumont's options even further. At the same time, ESTAC have already shown they can be dangerous away from home, while Mille, Picard, Ripart and Le Douaron give them enough attacking quality to trouble an Angers side that conceded in each of its first three league games.
