Can Frosinone's surprise start expose Napoli's problems? Napoli vs Frosinone prediction — 10.10.2026
Napoli and Frosinone will meet on Saturday, October 10, in the sixth round of Serie A. The match at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona kicks off at 20:45 CET. On paper, Massimiliano Allegri's team are clear favorites, but the opening weeks of the season suggest this could be a much more uncomfortable evening for the hosts than the difference in squad quality might imply.

Napoli: Allegri is still searching for stability
Napoli have collected seven points from their first five Serie A matches and sit ninth in the table. Their start has been inconsistent: a 2-0 victory away to Genoa was followed by defeats against Como and Inter, while the Azzurri then beat Bologna 1-0 and drew 1-1 with Fiorentina.
The results highlight the main issue for Allegri's side. Napoli have enough individual quality to control games, but they have not yet been consistently convincing at either end of the pitch. Kevin De Bruyne remains the team's main creative reference, Matteo Politano gives width and movement on the right, while Rasmus Højlund provides pace and physical presence through the middle.
Napoli's preparation is also complicated by personnel problems. Alisson Santos, Frank Anguissa, Giovane, Luca Marianucci, Scott McTominay, Alex Meret and Leonardo Spinazzola were all still following personalised programmes on October 2. Alessandro Buongiorno has only recently returned to the training ground to continue his rehabilitation, while Costantino Favasuli suffered a Grade 2 thigh strain on international duty.
That makes Allegri's defensive structure particularly important. Napoli have conceded in three of their five league matches, and Frosinone have already shown that they can punish teams when given space in transition.
Frosinone: the promoted side have immediately made an impact
Frosinone have been one of the most interesting teams of the opening weeks. Massimiliano Alvini's side have taken ten points from five matches and are seventh in the standings.
After losing 1-0 to Juventus on the opening weekend, the Gialloazzurri responded impressively. They beat Fiorentina 3-0 away, defeated Venezia 3-2, drew 1-1 at Genoa and then produced another excellent result by beating Como 2-0.
Their performance against Como was particularly revealing. Frosinone were happy to defend compactly and attack quickly when space appeared. Giacomo Calò opened the scoring before Giorgi Kvernadze doubled the advantage in first-half stoppage time, while goalkeeper Lorenzo Palmisani produced a superb display to preserve the clean sheet.
Kvernadze has already become one of the team's biggest attacking threats, while Romano Schmid provides creativity between the lines. Calò is another important figure because of his ability to dictate play and create from deeper positions.
However, Alvini has suffered a major setback before the trip to Naples. Antonio Raimondo, who scored four goals in his first five league appearances, has been diagnosed with insertional tendinopathy of the right Achilles tendon. He has started rehabilitation and is expected to miss the Napoli match. Daniel Bîrligea and Tomáš Bobček are the main candidates to replace him at centre-forward.
Probable lineups
- Napoli: Milinković-Savić; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Rafa Marín, Olivera; Gilmour, Lobotka; Politano, De Bruyne, Lang; Højlund.
- Frosinone: Palmisani; Oyono, Calvani, Monterisi, Bracaglia; Masini, Calò; Ghedjemis, Schmid, Kvernadze; Bîrligea.
Match facts and head-to-heads
- Napoli have seven points after five Serie A matches.
- Frosinone have collected ten points and scored nine goals in five rounds.
- Frosinone have scored in each of their last four league matches.
- Napoli have conceded in three of their five Serie A games this season.
- Antonio Raimondo has scored four of Frosinone's nine league goals but is expected to miss this match.
- Napoli have five wins, one draw and one defeat in their last seven meetings with Frosinone.
- Frosinone are unbeaten on their last two visits to the Maradona, winning 4-0 in the Coppa Italia in December 2023 and drawing 2-2 in Serie A in April 2024.
Napoli should create chances, but Frosinone have enough weapons to respond
Napoli's individual quality and home advantage should allow them to spend long periods in control of possession. De Bruyne, Politano and Højlund give Allegri several ways to break down a compact defensive block, and Frosinone are likely to spend much of the evening defending deeper than usual.
However, backing Napoli alone looks less attractive considering their inconsistent start and current personnel situation. Frosinone have already scored nine times in five league games and have shown that they are particularly dangerous in transitions. Kvernadze and Schmid can attack the space Napoli leave behind, while Calò has the passing range to launch counterattacks quickly.
Raimondo's absence is significant, but Alvini's side are not dependent on one player. Napoli should find the net at home, yet their defensive problems and Frosinone's confidence make an away goal a realistic scenario as well.
Prediction: Both teams to score — Yes.
