Zidane has made his decision. Who will captain France instead of Mbappé?

Zinedine Zidane has already decided who will take on extra responsibility after Kylian Mbappé's forced departure.

Details: Kylian Mbappé will play no further part in France's current international break after suffering a tendon injury to his left knee during the 1-0 Nations League victory over Turkiye. The captain was hurt while scoring the winning goal and has been ruled out of the upcoming matches against Belgium and Italy. With Mbappé unavailable, Ousmane Dembélé will now wear the captain's armband when France face Belgium.

The decision follows the captaincy hierarchy established by Zidane at the start of his first France camp. Mbappé remained the main captain, while Dembélé, Adrien Rabiot and Jules Koundé were selected as the other three players trusted with the armband. At the time that hierarchy was established, Dembélé had 67 international appearances, one more than Rabiot and 11 more than Koundé.

France will travel to Brussels to face Belgium on September 28 in the second round of the UEFA Nations League. Both teams opened the campaign with victories: Zidane's side defeated Turkiye 1-0, while Belgium claimed an impressive 2-0 away win over Italy.

It is worth noting that France have won each of their last five meetings with Belgium. Across those matches, Les Bleus scored nine goals and conceded only three.
