Blow for Zidane! Mbappé leaves France camp after knee injury

Zinedine Zidane has suffered his first major personnel blow since taking charge of France.

Details: The French Football Federation has officially confirmed that Kylian Mbappé injured his knee while scoring the winning goal against Turkiye. Medical checks revealed a tendon injury, and the France captain has been ruled out for the remainder of the current international break.

Mbappé scored the only goal of France's 1-0 Nations League victory over Turkiye in the 54th minute. However, the forward immediately felt discomfort in his left knee and, after briefly trying to continue, was replaced by Désiré Doué five minutes later.

After the final whistle, Zidane explained that the injury had occurred through a hyperextension of the knee during the shot and made it clear that France would not take any risks with their captain. Mbappé will therefore leave the national-team camp and miss the upcoming matches against Belgium and Italy.

It is worth noting that Mbappé's winner against Turkiye was his 12th goal for France in 2026, matching his best-ever tally for the national team in a single calendar year, previously achieved in 2022. He now has 67 goals in 107 appearances for Les Bleus.
