“We want to stay in the competition,” says Vladimir Petkovic ahead of Algeria’s clash with Switzerland
The Swiss tactician refuses to focus on the opposition
The Fennecs manager reiterated his team’s ambitions ahead of the 2026 World Cup round of 32, scheduled for Wednesday 3 July in Vancouver.
Algeria are set to play a decisive match against Switzerland at BC Place in Vancouver. In this fixture, which kicks off at 3 am GMT on 3 July, the Fennecs will need to show efficiency and character if they are to secure a place in the round of 16.
At a pre-match press conference, Vladimir Petkovic reaffirmed Algeria’s ambitions and expressed confidence in his team. The Swiss manager stressed, however, that he is not focusing on the opposition but rather on his own players.
“We are concentrating on our own strengths and weaknesses, not those of the opposition. We want to stay in the competition.”
