On the stands of the Moulay Hassan Stadium in Morocco's capital, Rabat, the Algeria vs DR Congo match drew some of the biggest names in world football.
Details: Cameras captured the legendary French footballer Zinedine Zidane in attendance at the stadium. Zidane decided to visit the Algeria vs DR Congo game to watch his son in action—who is a goalkeeper and represents the Algerian national team.
No goals were scored in regulation time. The match heads into extra time. The legendary player and coach may well witness his son in a dramatic penalty shootout.
By the way, Algeria is not foreign territory for Zinedine Zidane himself—his parents emigrated from the Kabylia region of Algeria to Paris in 1953, just before the start of the Algerian War.
Worth noting: the winner of this match will face Nigeria in the quarterfinals. That showdown is scheduled for Saturday, January 10, in Marrakech.
Recall: FBI agents attended the Africa Cup of Nations match between Algeria and DR Congo. Here's why.
