Today marks the first match of Group D in the 2024 European Championship, featuring the national teams of Poland and the Netherlands. The match will take place at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg and is set to begin at 15:00 Central European Time.
In anticipation of the match, fans of the Dutch national team have begun their journey to the stadium, filling the streets of Hamburg. The entire city on the banks of the Elbe has been painted in bright orange, with supporters singing songs. The queue of fans at the stadium entrance is so long that its end is not even visible. It is worth noting that Hamburg is the second-largest city in Germany and the sixth-largest in the European Union.
Hamburg, along with nine other German cities hosting Euro 2024, is experiencing a true football festival.
In addition to today's match, three more group stage matches will be held at the Volksparkstadion. On June 19, Croatia will face Albania, followed by two matches featuring the Czech team: against Georgia on June 22 and against Turkey on June 26. Hamburg will also host one of the quarter-final matches.
The Dutch team will play their next match at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig on June 21 against France. The streets of Leipzig are expected to be even more crowded with fans and even more vibrant with Dutch team colors. However, the French supporters will surely have something to counter this display.
