Before the start of Euro 2024 in Germany, there were numerous discussions about ensuring security. The streets of the cities hosting the matches, as well as other populated areas where teams and fans are staying, are heavily patrolled and fortified. However, today saw the first peculiar incident on the streets of Hamburg, which led to a fatality.

During the march of Dutch fans through the streets of Hamburg, which we reported on earlier, police noticed a man armed with an axe and some kind of "incendiary device." This individual began threatening the police officers.

Law enforcement immediately cordoned off the area and attempted to disarm him using pepper spray. However, this proved insufficient to subdue the suspect, and they opened fire on him.

The video shows a man in black clothing with a backpack. At the moment the police used the pepper spray, the man turned his back and was at a considerable distance before heading towards other fans. After four shots were fired, the man showed signs of life and was subsequently taken to the hospital.

Hamburg police posted on social network X:

"A large police operation is currently underway in St. Pauli [a district of Hamburg].

According to preliminary information, a man threatened police officers with an axe and an incendiary device. The police then used firearms. The attacker was injured and is currently receiving medical attention."

It should be noted that the Dutch national team is set to face Poland today, and local clashes were expected due to the massive influx of fans, but none occurred. According to police reports, the night passed quietly.
