On Monday, August 26, the world learned of the passing of legendary coach Sven-Göran Eriksson. In January, he was diagnosed with terminal-stage pancreatitis.

Since then, tributes to the Swedish specialist have been paid globally, with many tournaments beginning their matches with a minute of silence in his honor. However, a particularly heartfelt tribute came from Italian club Lazio.

Before their match against AC Milan yesterday in the third round of Serie A, Lazio shared a video on their social media channels – a three-minute montage highlighting Eriksson’s successes with the club.

Additionally, the center circle of the pitch was covered with a banner bearing a simple yet poignant message:

"Sven-Göran Eriksson. 1948-2024. Forever."

Eriksson served as Lazio's head coach from 1997 to 2000. Under his leadership, the team won Serie A—their second and last title to date. He also guided them to victories in the Coppa Italia, the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup.

Apart from the Coppa Italia, all of Lazio’s most recent major trophies were won under Eriksson's stewardship.

Before the start of yesterday's match, Lazio legend Dario Marcolin, who played a key role in the team during their championship run under Eriksson, took to the field. He wore a special shirt in memory of the late coach, further honoring Eriksson’s indelible impact on the club.
