UEFA confirms Lyon's exclusion from European competitions if relegated to Ligue 2

French side Lyon is now teetering on the brink—not only facing relegation from Ligue 1, but also exclusion from European competitions, as confirmed by football's global governing body.
Details: According to a UEFA press release, the investigation into John Textor's multi-club ownership of Lyon and England's Crystal Palace has been put on hold precisely because of the potential relegation of the French club to Ligue 2.
Quote: "The First Chamber of the UEFA Club Financial Control Body has postponed its review of the multi-club ownership case involving Lyon and Crystal Palace. This decision is linked to the ongoing assessment of Lyon's compliance with the settlement agreement due to breaches of financial sustainability regulations.
Under the terms of the agreement, Lyon will be excluded from European competitions for the 2025/26 season if the French DNCG confirms the club's relegation to Ligue 2. Further details regarding the case and the agreement will be published in due course," reads the press release.
Reminder: The decision to relegate Lyon to Ligue 2 is not yet final, as the club still has the right to appeal, which the management will certainly exercise.
