"The Special One" goes on the offensive. José Mourinho prepares a protest at the Santiago Bernabéu
The tension is mounting ahead of the Champions League second leg, and the main instigator of the controversy is none other than Benfica’s head coach, José Mourinho.
Details: According to Marca, the Portuguese manager, already serving a suspension, is considering a radical act of protest. Reports suggest that "The Special One" might completely snub the visit to his former club’s stadium, choosing instead to watch the match from an alternate location.
Mourinho had already taken the first steps in this protest the day before. He pointedly skipped the mandatory pre-match press conference, leaving both the media and UEFA officials bewildered. In his place, assistant coach João Tralhão faced the journalists’ questions, handling the pressure from the Madrid media solo.
This behavior is widely seen as a reaction to Mourinho’s strong disagreement with the sanctions imposed on him and several of his players.
Reminder: Benfica midfielder Gianluca Prestianni posted a controversial message on social media, which he later deleted.
