Sekhukhune United interim coach Paulus Masehe on substituting goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner: I was not breaking him but I was protecting him
Paulus Masehe described substituting Renaldo Leaner on Friday night as protecting than rejection.
The Sekhukhune United stand in coach said Leaner’s seemed to drop his head after his errors proved costly against Stellenbosch FC in a Betway Premiership match they lost 3-1.
Leaner’s poor clearances resulted in Stellies goals by Genino Palace and Chumani Butsaka at Athlone Stadium.
“I think it was more to protect him. His confidence was a bit low after committing two mistakes,” Masehe told SuperSport TV.
“It’s a game of football, it’s a game of mistakes. That’s why we are here to protect them [players], to make sure that at least we save a bit of pride for them.”
Babina Noko’s interim gaffer in Masehe said he was proud he added his own identity to the team despite the loss.
“At least I managed to add my identity and personality to the team,” said Masehe.
