Scandal takes a new turn as Laporta attacks Real Madrid over the Negreira case
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has launched a scathing attack on Real Madrid over its stance on the Negreira case. The Catalan club chief accused their rivals of attempting to damage Barcelona’s reputation and claimed that Madrid is seeking to downplay the team’s achievements.
“We enjoy football and our club, and we are recognized all over the world. They are trying to downplay all of that from Madrid. They tried to condemn us before the trial even began. In the end, Barcelona will be exonerated, while those who have constantly tried to damage the club’s image will be forced to withdraw their statements. They have adopted a very arrogant and haughty stance. They should engage in some self-criticism,” Mundo Deportivo quotes Laporta as saying.
In addition, the Barcelona president criticized Real Madrid’s institutional stance, claiming that the Madrid club is losing prestige, recognition and trust both nationally and internationally.
Recall that the conflict between the two Spanish giants intensified after Real Madrid submitted documents related to the Negreira case to UEFA and called for the investigation to be expedited. Barcelona continues to insist that it is innocent.
