Scandal! Mourinho gets El Clásico referee changed
Mourinho's pressure appears to have changed the refereeing plan for the biggest game in Spain.
Details: According to Marca, Alejandro Hernández Hernández will not referee the upcoming El Clásico between Barcelona and Real Madrid, despite initially being the Technical Committee of Referees' preferred candidate for the match. Journalist Roberto Gómez reported that the situation changed after José Mourinho repeatedly expressed his surprise and dissatisfaction that the referee's name had leaked well before the official appointment.
Marca reports that the refereeing committee initially wanted an experienced official for the high-profile encounter and Hernández Hernández was at the top of its list. However, Mourinho publicly questioned how information about the possible appointment had become known so early, increasing the attention surrounding the decision.
According to Gómez, the committee subsequently reconsidered its plans and removed Hernández Hernández from the match. The journalist suggested that officials did not want the appointment to create another source of controversy for Mourinho ahead of the Clásico. No replacement referee was named in the report, meaning the identity of the official who will eventually take charge of the game remains unresolved.
It is worth noting that Barcelona and Real Madrid are scheduled to meet at Camp Nou on October 25 at 21:00 Central European time. The refereeing issue therefore adds another layer of intrigue to one of the most anticipated matches of the LaLiga season.
