One foul on Kylian Mbappé — and Valencia were reduced to ten men.

Details: A controversial refereeing decision overshadowed the closing stages of Valencia's La Liga clash against Real Madrid. In the 79th minute, Valencia captain José Gayà received a straight red card for a foul on Kylian Mbappé near the left flank. Referee Francisco José Hernández Maeso immediately sent the defender off, leaving the hosts with ten players. At that point, Real Madrid were already leading 3-0.

The decision has raised questions about whether such a severe punishment was justified. Spanish outlet ElDesmarque suggested in its player ratings that a yellow card could have been sufficient for Gayà's challenge. The official La Liga match report confirms the foul and dismissal, but the severity of the punishment remains open to debate.

Valencia were already enduring a difficult evening before the dismissal. Federico Valverde opened the scoring in the 28th minute, Arda Güler doubled Madrid's advantage eight minutes later, and Mbappé made it 3-0 in the 75th minute. Just four minutes after finding the net, the French superstar was involved in another major incident, this time resulting in the opposition captain's dismissal.

It's worth noting that Mbappé has now scored in seven consecutive official matches for Real Madrid. The French forward has registered 13 goals in 12 La Liga appearances this season.
