The tragic death of 18-year-old footballer Camilo Nuin continues to send shockwaves through San Telmo and the broader Argentine football community. Nuin died unexpectedly during knee surgery, and judicial authorities are now investigating the possibility of medical malpractice.
As reported by Telenoche, one of Nuin’s former youth coaches, Diego, spoke out with visible pain: “He had a huge future ahead. He was a healthy, dedicated kid. Always the first to arrive, always intense in training.” Though Nuin had yet to sign a professional contract, he was already living like a pro at the club.
Camilo joined San Telmo in 2022 and played 82 matches in the youth divisions. He died during a procedure at a private clinic in Adrogué. An autopsy revealed cardiac arrest as the cause of death, but suspicions now center on how the anesthesia was administered.
The case, led by Prosecutor Carlos Patricio Pérsico of Lomas de Zamora’s Court No. 10, is currently labeled as involuntary manslaughter. Investigators are reviewing the actions of the entire medical team involved. No one has been charged yet, but toxicology and other forensic tests will determine the next steps.
Under Article 84 of Argentina’s Penal Code, negligent medical acts can carry prison terms of one to five years and up to ten years of professional disqualification.
“They took his life away, and it hurts so much,” said Diego. As the legal process unfolds, Camilo’s loved ones and the San Telmo community wait in anguish—for answers, and for justice.
