One of the finest goalkeepers of his generation and the long-standing guardian of Belgium’s goal, Thibaut Courtois, has left fans genuinely concerned about the future of the national team. The Real Madrid shot-stopper has hinted that his international career at the highest level may be drawing to a close.

Details: According to Alberto Pereiro, the 34-year-old goalkeeper made a remarkably candid and emotional statement right in the midst of the current World Cup:

“This World Cup could be the last of my career,” Courtois admitted.

Although goalkeepers often reach their peak after 30, Courtois already appears to be contemplating a generational shift within the ranks of the Red Devils. The Belgian national team is currently undergoing a major overhaul, and the potential departure of such a leader after the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico would be a massive blow for the European side.
